Imaginative Play
Imaginative play or creative play as it is sometimes known is important in building a child’s creativity. Creativity allows us to see new solutions to problems, see the “light at the end of the tunnel”, envision new inventions and imagine a way forward. We give our children the ability to create their own lives when we allow them as children to create their own play.
Our imaginations are extremely important. When we think of a goal we have in life we are able to imagine it and then devise means to reach it. Without our imaginations we would not be able to do this. Without being able to envisage a child cannot imagine a path to reach a goal and it becomes very difficult to progress.
Creative play also overlaps and helps with investigative play. It can help children with their problem solving skills as they develop ways to envisage a solution. Many types of play overlap and help develop skills for another type of play.
Children can also develop their imaginations through arts and crafts. Two very good sites to visit are
